Are the Falcons Better Off With A Pocket QB?
by CriticalFanatic

It's time for the Falcons to move on. There's very little chance Michael Vick plays for the organization again. Especially now that the local media has finally turned against him:
He’s gone. Whether that means for the season or forever in the NFL is debatable, but this isn’t: No way Michael Vick ever plays again for the Falcons.
It's over. Or is it a beginning?

I've long been a big Vick apologist to all those who claim he's the most overrated QB in the league. He's a better pocket QB than he gets credit, and you can't diminish the value of his feet, but perhaps it's best the Bobby Petrino Era begins with the type of QB he's excelled at coaching.

Petrino has a history of maximizing his quarterback talents. Next year's 1st pick in the NFL Draft will be Brian Brohm, who will likely give most of the credit to his former Louisville coach. Joey Harrington isn't putting fear into any NFL defensive backfield (how about that Schaub trade! Brilliant!), but he seems like Petrino type of guy.

The offensive line is likely to perform better when knowing exactly what's to happen on each play. Many of Vick's scrambles often resulted in holding calls. Warrick Dunn and Jerrious Norwood will likely improve on their impressive output from a year ago with consistent carries.

The Falcons may not be as flashy this season, but I'm finally starting to see the other side. A field position offense with a pocket passer may what Atlanta has need all along. Do you think Atlanta will improve without Vick this season? (Assuming he's gone

I've thought that Harrington could get it done with talent around him.  Unfortunatly, the Falcons WR's still blow, the OL is still average, and Warrick Dunn is aging fast.

What has Vick done to convince you that he will help them win?

Answer: Nothing.

Most Falcons fans are too caught up in the hype, and can't see the truth. Michael Vick is nothing but wasted potential. He has never passed over 3000 yards, or over 20 TD's in a season. People love to bring up the fact that he's a rushing threat as well, but that's not needed on a team if they have decent RB's, which the Falcons had with Duckett and Dunn.

Something to keep in mind: If you add his passing and rushing stats together, whose stats are most comparable?

Eli Manning.

Congrats, Falcons fans. You've got yourselves a fancy version of Eli Manning. Overpaid, overrated, and overhyped, living off a reputation that means nothing in the NFL.

The Falcons owner just talked, and he said that the team was planning on giving Vick a 4 game suspension, but Goddell apprently told them NOT to until he's finished reviewing the case.  Very interestig...

he has won games for the falcons, and he has taken them deep in the playoffs... two things that Eli Manning has yet to do.  So I find that comparison to be quite ridiculous.

what has Vick done to convince ME that he will help them win?  hmmm, he has won games.  In the past 4 years I have watched every falcon game with the exception of 2, and what I see is Michael Vick doing the best job he can with the talent he is surrounded.  You said earlier that Joey Harrington wont win 9 games because the team just sucks... wouldnt that be true for Vick to?  yeah, i think it would... so i think its unfair to say that he hasnt done the best job he could possibly do with THAT team

Supposedly Blank isn't happy with how Goodell is treating this case either.  I can see his point, if I were an owner I'd like to be allowed to punish my own players (assuming I was going to).

Actually, Michael Vick doesn't win games.  Neither does Warrick Dunn, or Keith Brooking.  The FALCONS win games, not a single player.

Actually, it's not that simple at all.  You're saying that without him, they are a 0-16 team every year, which is CERTAINLY not true.

I think they CAN win games without him.  What you're saying is that they are better with him than without, and I understand your point.

He did lead the Falcons to the NFC Championship Game a few short years ago. You quickly forget that fact in all your arguments. That's precisely what he's done to convince Falcons fans and I believe it's justified. The potential is was there.

the potential hasnt left... the team has just under performed.  and im not saying that he hasnt either, because there has been times where he could have played better, but his potential is still there and I really think he was going to have a good season this year
