Blogging the Bases: A-Rod Hits 499, or Was It 500?
by CriticalFanatic
7/26/07

Covering all the bases from Wednesday in baseball ...

Yankees 7, Royals 1
Stat geeks you'll love this - Last night Alex Rodriguez hit his 499th home. But there's a chance after Friday night it will actually be his 500th. How does that work? The Yankees will be finishing a game previously started in Baltimore on Friday. All statistics from the conclusion of that contest will be credited back to June when the game was originally scheduled. So, if Rodriguez homers in the final two innings Friday, last night's HR would actually end up as his 500th. Either way, I hope everyone realizes we're watching one of the best ever right now.

Tigers 13, White Sox 9
Welcome to the Ryan Raburn Show. It's nice to know the Tigers have a 4th outfielder this good. Remind me why they ever play Craig Monroe over him?

Indians 1, Red Sox 0 I get the impression both teams just decided to sit and watch Filthy Fausto outduel Beckett. Not a lot of balls were hit. That's Carmona's 13th win, tied for the most in the AL. Does Fausto have a chance at the Cy Young?

Mike Piazza hit in the head with water bottle His hair was ruffled in the process, so now he's pissed. "I'm pressing charges,'' Piazza said. "He's going to spend the night in jail. He hit me right in the helmet. ... It's just inexcusable at a baseball game to throw a bottle at someone. Just a joke.'

Orioles 6, D Rays 1 Erik Bedard keeps being awesome, it's too bad he plays for Baltimore and no one is really noticing.

Phils continue there streak to 5 with a Howard walk-off homer in the 14th.
