Blogging the Bases: Tigers Are Great, But No Match For Those Royals PhotoCovering all the bases from Friday in baseball ...

Royals 10, Tigers 2 I suppose I understand the logic of an inevitable letdown, but it was really just too much Billy Butler. 4-5, 4 RBI's.

Devil Rays 14, Yankees 4 So much for that great baseball in the Bronx. Mussina was extremely flat, BJ Upton was not. Why is it the DRays routinely have the Yankees number?

Cubs 6, DBacks 2
When Jacque Jones drives in two go-ahead runs in one game (let alone one season) you know everything is going right. Cubs have won 19 of 24, now 2 1/2 back in the NL Central.

Bonds: 0-4, 5 LOB

To add to his dud-ness - he was the only Giant with no hits yesterday

I'm still not sure why I hear trade rumors about him. Why would a contending team be interested in him this year?

Well, he wasn't pitching all that well when the White Sox went out and got him. Then all he did was become the most valuable pitcher for them in the playoffs.

That was the next year, though. He continued to suck for the rest of his first season with the Sox. I'm not sure that I would take a chance on a guy with a big contract and an even bigger ERA.

The only thing Contreras is good at right now is eating up innings. He needs to find another pitch like some of the other hard throwers did late in their career.
