Brewery Offers A Lifetime Of Free Beer To Austrian Players

I'm Not Sure If This Is Totally Awesome Or Totally Insulting

For those of you watching Euro 2008, you may have realized that there's a team that doesn't really belong with everyone else. That team is Austria. Actually, the only reason they're in the tournament is because they're a co-host country.

Ranked 92nd in the world, the odds are obviously against Austria getting to the second round of the tournament, let alone scoring. And that's probably exactly why an Austrian brewery has made this pretty awesome offer. The Ottakringer Brauerei brewery is offering a lifetime of free beer to the first Austrian player to score a goal. Meaning even if Austria loses 100-1, that one goal will get that lucky Austrian dude a lifetime of free beer.

Austria already lost 1-0 to Croatia, but they have two chances left against Poland and Germany.

By the way, I have no idea how good Ottakringer Brauerei beer is, but if it's half as decent as their upscale web site, someone's going to be a lucky man should he score a goal.

Now, if you've ever been to Austria, then you know how bold an offer this is. In Austria, if you're caught driving sober they make you chug a beer before sending you back on the road. In all honesty, it's probably cheaper to give an Austrian $1 million than a lifetime of free beer.

Something tells me everyone on Austria will be playing forward in their final two games. Including the goalie.

And in all honesty, I wouldn't blame them.

Considering the quality of most European beers (and they must be experienced in Europe, the imported stuff we get doesn't compare), this is an offer most people who enjoy alcohol-infused beverages couldn't refuse.

If it comes down to the Germany game, I'd make a deal with the German goalie. You know, go in halfer-weizen.
