ESPN's Monday Night Football Booths: "Johnson, Johnson, Hehe, Johnson, Johnson"
by CriticalFanatic
9/11/07

I know it's a bloggers' standard operating procedure to imply that everything ESPN does sucks, and 95% of the time they do, but I didn't mind last night's Monday Night Football coverage. Well, aside from Mike Greenberg sounding like he was announcing either underwater or from the back of the room. And who could blame him with Ditka and Golic as company?

I also thoroughly enjoyed Tony Kornheiser laughing at a good Johnson discussion.

TK: You just mentioned Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson, and Jeremy Johnson.

RJ: That is correct.

MT: And don’t forget that Landon Johnson scored a defensive touchdown.

TK: Absolutely. And we have another story later if we can get to it about somebody almost named Johnson.

RJ: Do you know who the biggest Johnson is?

TK: Noooooooo.. (Laughing)

RJ: It’s Jeremy. He came to camp over 300 pounds. He had to lose 20 pounds before they allowed him to practice. Big fella.

TK: I’m gonna let you have that all by yourself. (Laughing).. Followed by 13 seconds of silence in the booth.

This combined with Mike Ditka's unfortunate screen grab and it was a banner night for the MNF crew's.

Ha!  I thought that I saw that grab as they cut to the booth.  Now I know I wasn't making the whole thing up.

Greenberg looks like he's ready to ask Ditka if he can help him with that

If I had Photoshop handy, I'd be combining the Madden screen grab with the Ditka screen "grab."

Tony Kornheiser was really getting on my nerves last night.  The group of Mikes for the San Francisco game actually did a very nice job, though.  I'd like for them to do some more games.

I find it hilarious that they showed Ditka's "grab" on PTI as part of "Happy Trials"

The who's the bigger Johnson comment was priceless.  I don't even think he realized what he was saying until nobody said anything.

That was hilarious. It's not often you hear comments like that during a broadcast.
