Kevin Hart: Most Bizarre Recruiting Story Ever Photo

As you well know, tomorrow is the day when millions of grown adults will sit in front of their computers, refreshing message boards constantly, while obsessing over the college decisions made by 17 and 18-year-olds. It amazes me and I'm part of the problem.

Since I found Rivals.com several years ago, and learned how transparent recruiting has become, I've never heard of a story as bizarre as the one Kevin Hart of Nevada has to tell today. I'm also stunned this has never happened before.

Hart, a 2-star offensive lineman recruit from Fernley High School in Nevada, held a rah-rah ceremony on Friday with 1,000 of his closest friends in attendance. He donned a Cal Bears hat instead of the Oregon Ducks. His head coach followed with these joyous words:
"This is a great day for Fernley High School. This is one young man who is going to represent us on the national level. But we'll always remember he came from Fernley."
There's just one problem. California never actually offered him a scholarship. Nor did Oregon. It appears Mr. Hart is at the center of a tremendous prank. A very convincing man, that Nick Saban will likely offer a job, has been impersonating Cal coach Jeff Tedford.
"They really sold me," Hart said. "Coach [Jeff] Tedford and I talked a lot, and the fact that the head coach did most of the recruiting of me kind of gave me the real personal experience.”
Unbelievable. I do feel bad for Kevin, but I do hope he finds his way to a place of higher learning. He could most certainly use one. He never actually visited Berkeley himself, just spoke with faux Tedford over the phone on numerous occasions and that appears to be the case as well in regard to Oregon.

I can't decide whether this is more awesome or more evil. We'll have to see how this ends up before I figure that out.

(we'll have a National Signing Day open thread for those of you, like me, who'll be wasting their time refreshing message boards all day)

Everytime I see this story I think of this guy.

Anyway, unless this kid is delusional and making the whole thing up, its hard not to feel bad for him although it is a little bit funny.

+1 thumbs upMy brother's friend knows Ron Zook's number and pretends to be Bobby Bowden.

He's 6'5 and 290 - maybe Cal should take him anyway.  You can't have too much depth on the line.

That's awful. I feel terrible for the kid. Well, surely he must have been recruited by someone else for real!

Now that I think about it...he was choosing between two schools that never invited him to campus. That should have struck him as odd, but then again, if you're 18 and don't know the process, may not have seemed unusual.

The dude was never on Oregon's radar either.  I think he just wanted to feel relevant for LOI day.

This is a brutal story...I feel bad for the kid either way.
