Kirk Ferentz Offered Michigan Job and More College Football Coaching Rumors
by CriticalFanatic
11/26/07

It's the other most wonderful time of the year as the coaching carousel spins faster and faster. More firings today means more dominos. Here's a few rumors spreading across these Interwebs this morning:

Michigan - MGoBlog has been reporting over the last 24 hours that Kirk Ferentz has been offered the job. There's even a few rumors he's accepted. If that would end up to be true - sign me for tickets for the next time the Wolverines visit Iowa City. Wow. There's no doubt Ferentz is a great coach and has taken some untalented Hawkeye teams (according to recruiting sites) and made them elite. It's a scary thought what he could do in Ann Arbor. Les Miles is obviously still very much apart of the discussion, especially with a BCS title out of the picture. We'll see how long these Ferentz rumors persist, but Michigan would be better off securing someone sooner rather than later with more jobs opening up by the day.

Texas A&M  - Made the surprising decision to hire Houston Texans offensive coordinator, former Packers coach Mike Sherman. Bad news for those entertaining thoughts of a mass college domino effect.

Nebraska - Has already interviewed LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini over the weekend. He's been known to be a bad interviewer and worse recruiter, but his results on the field speak for themselves. Turner Gill is up next. Brian Kelly's name has even snuck onto the radar but I'd be surprised if Tom Osborne went that way. A guy I'm pulling to see get a job, Glen Mason could also get an interview as he's good friends with Osborne. My guess is Pelini will end up the guy as Miles will remain in Baton Rouge.

Georgia Tech
- Fired Chan Gailey today, will announce this afternoon. I'd love to see DC Jon Tenuda finally get his shot at the head coaching gig.

Ole Miss - No solid rumors yet, but here's a good list of candidates. I like Art Miles to get the job; Will Muschamp in the mix as well.

Brian Kelly - MGoBlog also had the fun rumor yesterday that Notre Dame did a background check on the Cincinnati head coach. I still find that hard to believe, but Kelly seems like the kind of guy Kevin White would want if he didn't have the Charlie Weis contract to mess with. White wanted Urban Meyer and his spread offense.

Houston Nutt
- Nothing official, but expect the departed Arkansas coach to be announced as the new Baylor coach this week.

Good times. Feel free to float any rumors into this thread.

How about Peterson, Mendenhall, and Paul Johnson as possible coaches to move to a new school?

He's obviously gone, but not many names out there yet until it happens.

Do you realize if UCLA were to beat USC, they'd still have a shot at the Pac-10 title.

That would mean Notre Dame have beaten a conference champion which activates a clause in their BCS contract gaining them eligibility.

I heard that last weekend and couldn't help but laugh.  I know the Rose Bowl always wants Big Ten vs Pac 10, but they couldn't be too happy if they got a UCLA - Illinois showdown.

How screwed is Iowa if Ferentz leaves?  I can't see why an up and coming coach would want to go there.  Its not easy to bring kids into Iowa.

As long as Glen Mason gets a job at one of those schools listed above; I'll be happy.

More important. Where are the Duke coaching rumors?
