NBA Triple Threat: Boston Pwns the West
NBA Triple Threat: Your (almost) daily roundup of last night's action in the Association:Boston Rolls Again Without KG Kevin Garnett missed another game with abdominal strain, but it didn't matter as Boston defeated the Spurs 98-90 in the Finals matchup no one wants to see (still a lot of Spurs and Boston antipathy). The Celtics improve to an amazing 16-0 against the West this year. Paul Pierce continued to pick up the slack without KG, scoring 35 points. San Antonio got within three with 1:13 to play, but couldn't get a good shot off the rest of the way. In a bit of poetic justice, FBS was hacked late in the game, and didn't get the call.
21-0 run fuels Nets The 21 point run came late in the second quarter and into the third. After that, it was easy for New Jersey as they stunned Dallas 101-82. I'm not what the bigger shock was. Dallas lost, but Vince Carter also showed heart, scoring 25 points after nearly being knocked out. On closer inspection, I'd have to go with Carter as the more surprising event.
Suns nip slumping Wizards Even as they wait for Shaq, the Suns continue to win, picking up a 108-107 victory over Washington, who have now lost seven in a row. With Shaq watching, Phoenix led throughout the game, but it was always tight, with the lead always in single digits. While Washington is slumping, they did play well despite missing Caron Butler and Antonio Daniels.
Best Lines
- Kobe Bryant, LAL: 33 pts, 10-15 FG, 11-11 FT, 3 rebs, 5 ast, 2 stl...Marion had 15 and 14 in his Miami debut, but not surprisingly it wasn't enough with Kobe playing this well.
- Allen Iverson, Den: 25 pts, 9-18 FG, 2-3 3PT, 1 reb, 13 ast, 2 stl...Denver 113, Cleveland 83. Ouch.
- Amare Stoudemire, Pho: 31 pts, 10-17 FG, 10-10 FT, 13 rebs, 2 ast, 1 stl, 4 blk
- Marion adjusts - I wonder how soon he'll realize being the third best player on a title contender > being the second best player on a horrible team.
- Marbury's season over - The Knicks' season just got 25% less amusing.
- Clips looking for a first round pick for Cassell - Given that it wouldn't be a high first rounder, I bet a team is willing to pay it if the buyout doesn't happen.
