Spygate Returns: Pats Employee Filmed Rams Before Super Bowl XXXVI Upset

Spygate Returns: Pats Employee Filmed Rams Before Super Bowl XXXVI Upset PhotoIf the Giants were to beat the Patriots it would rank as arguably the biggest upset in Super Bowl history. One of the games in that conversation would be New England taking down the 'Greatest Show on Turf' in Super Bowl XXXVI. That team, with a 2nd year quarterback drafted in the 6th round at the helm, was given very little chance to win. The St. Louis Rams led the NFL in passing, scoring and total yards and considered one of the best offenses in NFL history.

St. Louis scored just 17 points. A stunning victory, with a crafty defensive gameplan conjured up by genius Bill Belichick. Maybe we know why is was so genius, now.

The Boston Herald reports today that a Patriots employee filmed the Rams walkthrough practice the day before the game. In conjunction, ESPN talked with a former Patriots video assistant, Matt Walsh, who hinted at an extensive filming history but was concerned about legal implications if he spoke too much.

This former employee who apparently knows a great deal at all things 'spygate' hasn't been contact at all by the NFL, which shouldn't be much of a surprise. Skeptics (myself include) would believe that it's in the best interest of the league to try and push this whole issue under the rug. It's clear there's a lot more information being hidden from the public, and the fact Roger Goodell destroyed the tapes from earlier this year isn't going make matters any better for the NFL. I don't know how this will end, but I'm guessing not well. It was easy to hide damaging information from fans 10 years ago, but not any more.

The bad news is this means endless spygate talk tomorrow. The good news is that we're getting closer to the truth.

right now, its not been proven so I would say lets wait for the outcome before we rush to judgment. With that said, if it is true, Goodell should punish the Patriots severely for not being upfront and honest in the first place when he afforded them the opportunity. And, if it is true, Belechick should be BANNED from coaching in the NFL and any of his assistance who participated knowingly in the Cheating should also be BANNED or at least suspended. As a fan, we deserve the right to see a fair and honest game, and cheating robs us of that right.
+7 thumbs upIt's clear this happens in the NFL -- spying on practice, play calls -- and it's probably not limited to the Patriots.

I'd just like to see the NFL show a greater concern for cracking down on this, instead of destroying tapes and giving us (fans) lip service. I don't think it's good for the league.

+1 thumbs upUh Oh!

I wish this came out earlier so the media could have been grilling that homeless guy with boobies about cheating all week instead of Tom's boot and what kinds of junk food he enjoys.

Really, Belichick? REALLY?

+1 thumbs upI think we all knew that the incident earlier this season wasn't the first one, for the Patriots, or in the NFL in general.

+3 thumbs upReally?  New England cheating?  Say it ain't so!  Who would have seen this one coming?  Oh wait, me.
#7 | 157 days ago

+1 thumbs upWell... now it definitely legit to question those 3 Super Bowl titles.  That said, there's still nothing to taint this season.

+2 thumbs upBy the way, the NFL says they're not worried about this because the Patriots say its not true.  So once again Goodell is showing favoritism to the owner that pushed for him to this job.

+3 thumbs upIt's odd how he can punish players so harshly for incidents off the field but ignore cheating on an organizational scale.

Guess single players can grease his pockets like Bob Kraft can.

I like how the guy who did or didn't do the taping won't say if the tape was real or if he even did it or not.

+1 thumbs upthe reason for this is that He signed a confidentiality agreement with the Patriots Organization so he is asking for some kind of immunity before he talks- at least that's what I have been reading on this subject.

+2 thumbs upThe way he talks about the Patriots its as if some mob is going to get rid of him if he says anything.

+1 thumbs upWhy would a Patriots fan chime in on this one??? its a completely disgraceful act (if its TRUE) and this would just solidify every ones opinions and arguments for a tainted season and tainted Superbowl victories. I think they will keep their mouth's shut for quite some time until it all pans out. and if it pans out that this allegation is TRUTH- you wont hear S**T from them as usual!!

+1 thumbs upI predicted Patriots 49-17 weeks ago because for some reason, I had a gut feeling that something (anything) was going to happen to bring up Spygate again right before the game. Of course, I didn't think that this mess was going to surface quite yet!!! I honestly hope that the Patriots lose(because I DESPISE Belechick mainly) and that these allegations turn out to be true so we can be privileged to watch the "Greatest Team in History" completely fall apart!! I know it sounds pretty harsh, but that's just how upset I get with CHEATERS!!

+1 thumbs upYeah I really HATE cheaters too. Its going to go one of two ways I believe. There isnt going to be a close game. They either fall apart tomorrow, or they come with a vengence. Like a  "no mercy" vengence and no sportsmanship like when they beat the Redkins 52-7 this season. Yeah, I said it.

+2 thumbs upyeah, I remember that!! I also remember (because I was at the game) the Patriots scoring a TD with :39 seconds left in the game, up by 14 points, on the Cowboys 5 yard line and Dallas with NO timeouts left.................. enough said on re-living that game. they just have NO CLASS- PERIOD!! and it all starts and ends with their Coach! Yeah, I said that as well!
