Andruw Jones Doesn't Care What You Fans Think Of His .170 Batting Average
5/11/08
If you've been awake and on these YouTubes lately you've probably read something about the mainstream media criticizing bloggers for being too vicious, calling professional athletes names and such. How dare we give those making $100 million dollars a hard time when they provide a 10 cent effort. Turns out people like to read that stuff.
T.J. Simers of the Los Angeles Times joined in the name calling parade last night after a conversation with Andruw Jones - although tubbo and clueless might not be that vicious.
Apparently Simers, fed up with Jones propensity to feed himself, offered to go on a diet with the highest paid player in Dodgers history. Jones denied the offer, but Simers went through with it and has gone from your typical overweight sports writer to a somewhat less overweight sports writer. They discussed his diet again last night:
"Have you lost anything?"Simers carried on, asking if he cared at all about the fans and their displeasure with the meaningless production this season.
"I don't care," he said.
I shook my head in disbelief, and he said, "I don't care what you think."
"Do you care what anyone thinks?"
"I don't care," Jones said.
"Don't you care that the fans in Dodger Stadium have turned on you?"Bravo, Simers. I would have chosen fat and dumbass, but I still like the cut of your jib.
"No," he said. "That's their problem."
I suggested that it's not human for someone not to be bothered by booing fans in their own stadium, and he stuck out his tongue and made some noise.
"How do I write that down?" I said.
All together now: "I don't care," he said.
Without the fans, I said, there's no reason for you to be here in Los Angeles playing baseball and no way you're getting paid $36 million over the next two years.
"I don't care," he said. "You play for the team, you don't play for the fans. The fans never played the game. They don't know."
Both a Tubbo and clueless, which really isn't a very good combination for the player with the highest annual salary in Dodgers history.
