Brett Favre Has Decided to Finally Retire
by CriticalFanatic CriticalFanatic | >7 days ago23 Comment Comments »

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is breaking the news that Brett Favre has decided to call it a career.

Seeing as how the Packers haven't made any moves to help the offense in free agency, this decision is hardly a surprise. What is a bit of a shock, is that he decided too soon. I figured we'd be doing this dance with Favre until early summer.

Is there any doubt not signing Randy Moss played a role?

As a Chicago fan I give him the highlight compliment in that I've admired his play more than any Bear over the last 16 years.

Although an interception in the NFC Championship Game will be his final memory, I'll choose to remember this play above that confirms the man went out on top. Good for him.

I suspect Brett will be one of the most highlight debated QB's down the road. There is a growing contingent that think he's extremely overrated, as he also set the NFL Record for career interceptions. I'll have to ponder where I place him all-time, but he's certainly been the most entertaining quarterback to watch.

It kind of sucks being waken up so you can take a phonecall from your dad that Brett has retired.  I've never actually watched a Packer game without Favre being involved so this upcoming season is going to be strange.  I'm happy for Brett, but at the same time angry at Ted Thompson.  One move last year, for Randy Moss, and we could've sent Brett out on top.

+2 thumbs upHere we go again.  If he's just pouting and comes back at the last minute, I will have lost a ton of respect for him.  If he finally realized Ted Thompson is a douche and it takes every bit of his soul to get to an NFC Championship with an average team that won't get better - good for him.  Save some of your soul for the golf course.

+1 thumbs upIf you're wondering what kind of effect Brett is having on Wisconsin today, I've spent the last 15 minutes exchanging texts with people talking about Brett and you should see some of the Facebook statuses.

Didn't he say he was retiring last year?  I almost want him to come back already to curb the melodramatics.  Hopefully the Brewers are strong out of the gate.  Or pick a flavor of the week team like the Lakers to back.  Something to get your minds off of him.

+1 thumbs upSadly, we might still have the best QB in the division, depending on how much you think of Kitna.  The one thing that worries me about Rodgers is that he seems to get hurt easily, which only looks worse since he'll be following a guy that never missed a game.

Tarvaris Jackson showed flashes towards the end of last year.  Hope the Vikings don't give up on him.

Drew.Stanton.

OK, not really, but a Spartan fan would like to make sure he isn't forgotten about and could very well be the Lions QB. What a lousy division for QB's, huh? I'd venture to say Tarvaris is in the best shape.

Either way, it's hard to believe that this is actually happening.  The Packers won't seem like the Packers with a different guy under center.

Somewhere, Aaron Rodgers is doing cartwheels.

With Rodges track record, Craig Nall is probably licking his chops right now - he's got a good chance to be the starting QB next year.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me a dollar.

We are not hear to haze Brett Farve, but Madden is here to marry him.

Sorry I have always wanted to butcher that line. Well I am one of those who does not hate Brett Favre, but I hated the hype machine that was created. I am not saying that he un-worthy of the accolades and he should be in pantheon of great QB's, but I will not miss Madden's Haley-Boppesque cult he was beating us with week in and week out.

Has someone told Frank Caliendo about this?

Im pretty sure this time its for real. Last year he said ''it was fun playing in the NFL'' in tears. Now its ''IM DONE''
#14 | 126 days ago

He kind of went out on a dick note.  It's not as cut and dry as "Sign Moss or I'M GONE!" but to say Randy Moss would have motivated him to come back for at least another year but none of his current teammates do?  Pretty scummy.

I knew this would be the last season for him! I know he was trying for the big bang Superbowl win but when that didn't happen he had to of pondered his career and realized that he is still healthy and had a wonderful career. He's still going out with a big bang! He also Leaves his team in a bind with an un-proven

QB.

This is like graduating from high school when you kind of want to start your life, yet you want to stay back in your shell where everything is all good. I want to see Favre retire at a high point, yet you never want to see someone like Favre retire. Favre has been in the NFL for my entire life, 17 seasons in the NFL and I am 17, and I can't possibly imagine watching the Packers play with out Favre at QB. He is the reason why I started watching professional football.

+1 thumbs upyou're entitled to your opinion... but as a "die hard" who went to over 50 games to watch him... none of this media talk can taint him or what he has done. But feel free to keep up your cool language in your posts about him...shrewd

all I know is it was one helluva ride! Saw him play at lambeu for 1st time in 92 vs LA Rams... saw his last game freezing my arse off at lambeau Jan 20th. people can take shots at him if they want...but a true legend. Other than Elway...very few HOF QB's finished their career in OT of championship game... at the level he did. What a ride!

i just wish his last play wasnt that damn int. but he will never be forgotten in lambo or in anythere cheesehead outside of lambo cuz me from michigan a die head packer fan i just wish his last play would've been better.

i feel bad for the next QB in green bay he will be held to high standards by the fans cuz were so used to favre calling the shots weather its rogers or somebody eles they better be ready for the fans cuz filling favre's shoes will be hard to do!!

He's famous for bad interceptions, I find it a fitting end.  And that's nothing against him at all.  He has a ring, he'll be alright.  It's the fans in that Wisconsin ghost down that have to deal with the fact that it's one of the worst teams in the NFL without him.  That in itself is a testament to how good he was.  He carried some bad, bad teams.

+1 thumbs upI don"t watch pro sports  however I can read. Not watching pro sports and never liking the Packers I know Brett took chances and made some mistakes. I also know he was All Pro a few times which helps me know that he is famous for a lot of things, most of them good. I like and respect you and your opinion, however I sense a wee bit of bias. With that I must say good work as I think that is the creed pat forde ESPN subscribes to. I want to once again say I do not watch so this maynot be an accurate assumption it maybe biased.

+1 thumbs upI knew he would retire after padding his stats.

Well, on one hand, it's not like the Packers were nothing without Favre, not these version anyway. We're strong in most areas, and there's a decent chance a healthy (there's the problem) Rodgers is still the best QB in the division, so I doubt Green Bay goes into the tank. Plus, I'm happy Favre didn't drag this out all spring and into summer again.

Still, like the other Pack fans have said, it's gonna be strange without #4 next season. We just don't know a time with anyone else under center. There's some things I won't miss (media fellatio and horrible picks the top two), but it won't be the same.
