Butler Wins Horizon: How High Will the Bulldogs Be Seeded? (w/ Bonus Mascot Fight)
by CriticalFanatic
3/12/08

Jim Boeheim can breathe easy for at least another 12 hours. No bids were stolen last night.

Butler 70, Cleveland St. 55 Bulldogs make it official and give the Selection Committee an awful lot of reasons to make them a 3-seed. 29-3, 18 RPI is very solid. Big negatives: lost to Drake at home, and totally blew their one storming the court opportunity. I realize they've been here before, but embrace the moment. What was that like 20 people at center court with 2/3 being male cheerleaders? Weak, Butler, weak. I suspect they end up as a 4-seed in North Carolina's bracket.

Oral Roberts 71, IUPUI 64
3rd straight year for Scott Sutton and the Golden Eagles. They'd better make the most of this opportunity, because Sutton should have any offer from any decent job opening this spring. What's the key to a 1st round upset? Usually unconscious three-point shooting. Moses Ehambe was 7-13 last night and has the green light at all times. If he's hot next week, some 3-seed is going to have a rough day.

The only issue with ORU is their mascot has a tendency to get PWNED. From last night's game:

Western Kentucky 67, Mid Tenn St. 57
Lost by 3 to Gonzaga, 6 to Tennessee, and 4 to South Alabama. That's how the Hilltoppers faired against other tourney teams. They've got enough size in the post and their own 42-year Greg Oden in D.J. Magley. Another scary 14th seed to be sure.

Big East starts at noon today. We'll have an open thread for anyone stuck at class, work.
