Duke Blue Devil Sucks Enough To Injure Himself In Stunt
by CriticalFanatic
2/28/08

Fairly quiet and inconsequential night in college hoops so we'll start with the highlight ...

Duke's Mascot injures himself in a surfing stunt
(thanks to AA for the video) Not funny, but funny. What actually happened was that the refs called a foul on Georgia Tech for this incident and Duke got a couple more free throws to begin the second half. Speaking of foul shots, you're going to be shocked, SHOCKED by this stat. The Yellow Jackets didn't shoot their first free throw until there was 9:30 left in the second half. I won't make too much of the 30-11 FT disparity as GT has been foul prone, but there were more than handful of instances in the first half that should have resulted in a trip to the charity stripe. The story is always the same.

The other story of the game was Yellow Jacket guard Matt Causey getting knocked out at the end of the half. Then in a scary moment, ESPN caught picture of his eyes rolling back into his head and shaking while he was on the bench to start the 2nd. I'm thinking get this guy to a hospital pronto. What happened? He went into the game in a matter of moments and did the whole crazy eye trick at the free throw line. Maybe he was just stunned a foul was called? Duke 71, Georgia Tech 58

Also worth noting ...

Kentucky is 10-3 in SEC By no means are they a good team yet, but credit Gillispie for keeping the Big Blue ship very much afloat. They're no tied for 2nd in the SEC East (ahead of Vanderbilt) and have the second best conference record overall. Now, this goes to show that the conference isn't exactly strong, but also may keep alive the Wildcats chances at the dance. A longshot, but if they could just get another big win ... guess who they play Saturday? Tennessee. Kentucky 58, Mississippi 54

Game of the night: #17 Michigan State at #9 Wisconsin (9, ESPN)

The Causey thing was insane last night.  I couldn't believe they let him go back in and play, while he was still having to shake his head to get his eyes right, while on the court.  I was watching the game with an athletic trainer and he was stunned that the team's trainer let him back out there, citing liability junk.
