Georgia Bulldogs Chew Up Colt Brennan; Hawaii Leaves Sugar Bowl As A Fraud
by CriticalFanatic
1/2/08

During one of the most unpredictable college football seasons in memory, it's nice to have something predictable happen. At least for those who saw through the Hawaii Warriors smoke and mirrors.

June Jones had a good football team this year ... for the WAC. He deserves heaps of credit for what he's done and has put together the perfect offense to succeed in that conference. But this wasn't Boise State of '07-'08.

It's easy to put up prolific passing numbers when you face zero pass rush, and when the best defense you face yielded 42 points to Washington State you're bound to set records. What Hawaii hadn't faced was a decent football team, one that hits you in the mouth.

In Hawaii's defense, a lot of teams in the Top 50 would have gotten worked by a very good Georgia team. But what surprised me, even for one who has doubted the Warriors all year, was how utterly mismatched they were physically. Brennan was sacked 8 times, most notably this crushing blow by Marcus Thomas who appeared to run right through the 3rd place Heisman finalist.

The best non-BCS school should always get a bid to the Bowl Series in my opinion, but lets not always rush to judgment that the one who puts up the most offensive points is always the best.

Georgia 41, Hawaii 10

Georgia dominated the game both physically and mentally.  Hawaii had a great season, but this is a reality check for them and for any at-large BCS team.  Play a stronger Non-conference schedule, my biggest pet peeve, and see if you actually belong in the BCS.

On a side note, Michigan and USC looked highly impressive.  Michigan took care of a very strong Florida team.  I wonder if the outcome of the Ohio State game been different had Henne and Hart actually been healthy?!  We won't ever know, but it does make you think for a minute.  USC destroyed an over-matched Illinois, it wasn't even close.

If the BCS was going to somehow let Illinois and Hawaii undeservedly be in BCS bowls, they should have made them play each other and let us have USC-Georgia, which would have been an awesome game.

Hopefully, the other BCS games will be good, but yesterday's games exposed the two weakest teams and had me quit watching by the 4th quarter of the Illinois game.  I didn't even bother watching the Hawaii get handled.

This game was so predictable. It wasn't even funny. The only game that acutally went how it was expected to go. Maybe some of us expected Georgia to score a little more. But none the less. It went just as imagined. That Michigan game was just unbelivable. Florida had the second most highest confidence points in the all of the bowl games. The first being USC & Illinois. Which also went as expected. But i agree, Hawaii should have played a team like Illinois instead of Georgia. That would have been a game to watch.

I'm still looking for all the threads about the Illini being frauds...
