by CriticalFanatic CriticalFanatic | >7 days ago40 Comment Comments »

Lauren Caitlin Upton got the whole how-to-look thing down. As far as bringing the mental portion to the table, Miss South Carolina was off the map. Literally. Check out this attempted answer during Friday's Miss Teen USA Pageant.

Just.Wow.

Maybe now we know why Steve Spurrier made such a big fuss about the South Carolina academic admissions policy.

Ugh.  I wish I could deny I was a public school teacher in SC right now.  If ever there was an appropriate time for a "bless her heart", it would be now.

At least she left an impression.

But even preschoolers are learning that stuff... well, maybe not that early. But geeze. We need to help Africa and Iraq because we are stupid and can't point out the US on the map?

All I heard her say was that we need to improve Africa and Iraq's schools because Americans don't know where we are on the map.

and the question was something like " A 5th of Americans can't locate America on a world map, why do you think this is ?"  Maybe i should give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she heard the question wrong haha.

I thought the same thing, but if the pageant thing goes bad, at least with skills like that a career in politics looks a dead cert.

Yeah, at least she could be a dumb, blonde model or one of the next friends of Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Lindsay Lohan or something!  Maybe they can teach her about modeling and what it takes to be successful....they are such GREAT role models ya know?  lol

Though maybe seeing it in print would help:

“I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and uh, I believe that our, I, education like such as uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the US should help the US, uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us.”

Ok So it didn't help a lick but she is so cute and she tried like really hard.
