NBA Playoff Triple Threat: Orlando Rolls While LA Takes A Commanding 2-0 Lead
The NBA Playoffs: Where Losing On The Road Happens
by Jubanator14
5/8/08

(Almost) Every day during the NBA playoffs, the Triple Threat will break down the latest action as we get closer to awarding the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

LA Lakers 120 Utah 110 Kobe Bryant received his first career playoff game and then went out there and showed why he won the award this year. Kobe led the Lakers with 34 points, his 42nd career playoff game with 30+ points. Derek Fisher had a personal playoff high 22, Pau Gasol added 20, and Lamar Odom had a solid double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Utah was led by Deron Williams' 25 points and 10 assists but many of those 25 points were in the last 2 minutes when the Lakers were on cruise control. Now this series shifts to Utah where the Jazz were 37-4 at home in the regular season, however one of the 4 losses were to the Laker by 11. The Lakers should also now be penciled in as the Western Conference Champions because the 4 other times that the Lakers started the playoffs 6-0, they have made it to the Finals, winning it 3 of those times.

Orlando 111 Detroit 86 Rashard Lewis had a breakout game for the Magic who showed no ill effects of the Game 2 loss to beat down the Pistons in Game 3. Lewis scored 33 points while having the 2nd best shooting night in franchise history. Orlando fans have been wanting Lewis to step it up and be the outside to Dwight Howard's inside, and tonight he had a huge game. Howard had 20 pts, 12 rbs, and 6 blks while Hedo Turkoglu added 18. Orlando also hit 11-24 from three which is a great improvement over Games 1 & 2. Not only did Detroit suffer their worst defeat of the playoffs, they also lost their leader Chauncey Billups early in the 1st quarter with a strained hamstring. Billups is hopeful that he can play in Game 4. With Billups out, the Pistons relied on rookie Rodney Stuckey to lead them. While Stuckey had 19 points, the intangibles that Billups bring to the game just couldn't be replaced. Detroit will need Billups in Game 4 if they want to go back to Detroit up 3-1.
