Penguins Shut Out Rangers, Lead 2-0 [NHL Wrap-Around 4/28]
by MrNFL
4/28/08

Who’s one step closer to hoisting Lord Stanley?  The Wrap-Around is your daily update for last nights’ NHL Playoff action.

Penguins Shutout Rangers to Take 2-0 Series.

Both goalies played a great game, as the Penguins last goal was shorthanded.  Lundqvist stopped 30 of 31 shots, which is usually a victory.  But Marc-Andre Fleury saved all 26 of the shots that came at him.  The Rangers did better on faceoffs, but it wasn't enough.  The Penguins scored halfway during the 2nd period, as Jordan Staal scored on a powerplay with assists from Malkin and Whitney.  The Rangers late in the 3rd appeared to have tied the game, as a puck went in.  However, the ref had lost sight of the puck and blew it dead before it went in.  Adam Hall scored late on an empty netter to end it for the Penguins.  The Penguins now lead the series 2-0, with game 3 on Tuesday.

Sharks Go Down 0-2 In Series With 5-2 Home Loss.

Who would've expected the two seed Sharks to have lost twice on home ice to start the series.  San Jose had a few more shots, more hits, and more faceoff wins, yet it wasn't enough.  San Jose lead after two, scoring in the first on a Joe Pavelski goal.  Mike Ribeiro tied it for the Stars, but the Sharks took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd off of a Milan Michalek goal.  But the Stars would score 4 goals in the third, the first unassisted by Brian Campbell at the start of the third to tie it.   Then, Mike Modano's powerplay goal gave Dallas a 3-2 lead.  Niklas Hagman scored with about 6 minutes left to put it out of reach, and Hagman ended it with an empty netter at the end.  The underdog Stars have a 2-0 advantage, and go home for game 3 on Tuesday.

Beating the Penguins is tough enough, right now, but the task of beating the Penguins, and the Officials, is seemingly impossible. In Game 1, a Rangers player, was guilty, of something, unseen, every 5 minutes it seemed, and in Game 2, a puck was nowhere near under Pens goalie Fleury, and the whistle was blown, to cancel a Rangers goal, which should have tied that game. Conspiracy?  I'm thinking the possibility exists.
