Stephen A. Smith Does Not Like This Favre Guy

I know there are a lot of people out there who hate Stephen A. Smith. Frankly, I don't have much of a problem with him, although that's because I totally ignore him.

Anyway, although he's loud and obnoxious, that doesn't mean he isn't right occasionally. Yesterday, Stephen A. wound up on ESPN News and did what I think a lot of people, including myself, have wanted to do for a long time - rip Brett Favre and rip the idiotic sportswriters who protect him.

All of Smith's points are valid. The Packers don't owe him squat. He willingly retired. He's hurting Aaron Rodgers. This whole thing is sickening. He's been ridiculously protected by the media.

That last point is particularly true. And just to harp on that, I want to point out - yet again - how utterly asinine and stupid sportswriters can be in protecting Favre. Here's Peter "I wish Favre would marry me" King talking about how Favre isn't trying to hurt anyone in this ridiculous process.
What he [Favre] does not want to do is ruin his legacy in Wisconsin and prevent his three-year backup Aaron Rodgers -- who Favre does not want to screw -- from taking his rightful place as the Packers starting QB in 2008.
What an idiot. Favre's screwed everyone in this process, including himself, Peter. ESPECIALLY Rodgers. Don't let your man lust for Favre fog your contacts you fat overrated writer.

Anyway, at this point, I hope we start getting more and more guys going on the air and ripping Favre. And in the paper as well. He's left the team in a horrible position and he deserves to not only be called out for it, but drilled repeatedly for doing so.

For the first time, I can frighteningly admit that I not only understood everything Stephen A. said, but I also agree with him 100%.

I can't stand Stephen A, but he hit the nail on the head here, on a subject that the rest of the major media is missing miserably.

From Peter King's article that was linked in the blog:

"Mark my words: Unless Favre agrees to some sort of handshake, gentleman agreement that he'll steer clear of the NFC North, there's no way the Packers will allow him to go free."

Doubtful. If I were the Packers, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. After all, he made MORE than a "gentleman agreement" that he was retiring from football in March. And here we are...

wow, that almost made me like stephen a.  maybe because he was talking calmly and making points, instead of yelling and bouncing around in his chair.  this is why i have brett favre is an @$$ hole on my IM headline.  the packers should put him on the practice squad.  favre is a total knob, tool, toolbox, ace hardware store, douche who should be happy he has brainwashed packer fans instead of being tarred and feathered for the crap he pulls.  i guess 1 super bowl ring does lots of things for you in Green Bay.

It was great to hear someone finally calling out all these clowns who are so over the top in gushing over his holiness. I dont think I have ever agreed with SAS. I also dont think I have ever heard SAS not yell or talk extremely loud. But what will that overrated tub of goo Peter King do if Favre doesnt get his way. Plus the next time Favre actually sticks to his word will the the first time

Yea... hell is going to freeze over!  Smith is calm, rational and makes perfect sense - and is saying what most of the rest of the world is thinking but is afraid to say...
