There Can Only Be One: NBA TV Ads Inspire Time Mag's Political Cover
4/25/08
If you've watched more than five minutes of NBA basketball over the last month you've seen the "There Can Only Be" split screen advertisements that are incredibly captivating and effective.
So much so, Time Magazine took notice and has copied the concept for it's May 5th cover.

That's unbelievable. Just the thought that a sports advertisements could have any effect whatsoever on political coverage is stunning.
With the "Where Amazing Happens" campaign earlier this year, and now the esteemed "There Can Only Be One," this is an all time great year for NBA marketing. Less than 12 months ago we were discussing Tim Donaghy and in David Stern's own words, his tenure had reached an all time low.
I'd say the league's respect is back ... and the product on the floor isn't too bad either right now.
