Tony Stewart Endorses Goodyear Tires
by CriticalFanatic
3/10/08

Or ... not so much. After finishing 2nd in Atlanta, Tony Stewart throws Goodyear tires under the bus RV.

Pretty sure Tony will be looking for a new tire supplier this morning. Among his comments:

"Worst tires I've ever been on."

"I'm going home and taking everything that has Goodyears off and put Firestones on and feel a lot safer. It's a shame these teams that work so hard are being dictated by a company incapable of building tires fit for a street car."

"Goodyear can't build a tire worth a crap."

So, in summary, Stewart doesn't think Goodyear is all that good. Not sure if you picked up on that or not.

Yep.  There's been rumors for a while that NASCAR might open up the tires to a couple of companies and let the teams decide them, but its never gone through.

Seems like that would make more sense. Obviously.

It's one more thing to regulate and inspect, and that seems like the last thing NASCAR needs right now.  Teams also don't need another way to get docked points.  Stewart is just a big fat baby.  Kyle Busch isn't having any problems with the same tires on his Camry.

A lot of times Stewart IS just being a baby, but I have to agree with him on this issue.  His deal is these tires are making the racing boring & unsafe.  When the drivers are this weary of pulling next to another car, that is not good!

The #1 concern should always be safety & if Goodyear can't make a freaking tire any softer or with more grip than we saw on Sunday......I'm with Tony -- get on down the line & get a new company to do it!

Atlanta has always been one of the best places to watch a race over the years, but this last one was just plain terrible.

Tony's also quick to forget that Firestones were the ones blowing up all over the road and sending SUVs flipping all over American highways just a few years ago.  Good luck with that.
