Video: David Beckham Taking the Pitch In LA Galaxy Debut
7/22/07
Beatles is was not, but the scene at the Home Depot Center was certainly that of a rock star.
David Beckham's 12 minute debut was hardly worth an encore, but the circus alone was worth tuning in. Despite the minimal playing time, I'd consider Day 1 of Becks' quest to convert more Americans in soccer fanatics a success.
I watched. Plan to watch again. I'm precisely the type of fan the MLS needs to win over. Thoroughly enjoy soccer, but just haven't been given a compelling reason to choose the sport over offerings from our other major sports. As much as you'd hate to admit this, it's the world wide leader who can make a difference. Just ask hockey.
16 of the LA Galaxy's last 17 games will be nationally televised. We'll see what happens when football picks up steam, but I plan to watch most. Will you?
