Video: Hank Aaron Congratulatory Statement to Barry Bonds
>7 days ago
Despite your thoughts on Barry Bonds achievement tonight, I think we can all agree that the class act of the night was Henry (Hank) Aaron. Perhaps he hadn't handled himself well in the past, but tonight he did his duty. I was ok with his official "non-statement," but he offered a more appropriate congratulations to Barry Bonds than I think any of us could have written up:I'd of course like to encourage others to chase their dreams ... naturally, because you CAN achieve it by those means, but either way, a very appropriate remark from a man who didn't just stand and admire his record home run with two hands above his head and that's how I'll distinguish these two sluggers."From the desk of Henry Aaron:
I would like to offer my congratulations to Barry Bonds on becoming baseball's career home run leader. It is a great accomplishment which required skill, longevity and determination.
Throughout the past century, the home run has held a special place in baseball, and I have been privileged to hold this record for 33 of those years. I move over now and offer my best wishes to Barry and his family on this historic achievement.
My hope today, as it was on that April evening in 1974, is that the achievement of this record will inspire others to chase their own dreams."
