4/8/08

This was one game to definately remember. In my house it was me, a Memphis native and my son pulling for the Tigers. Honestly though, I am a Florida Gator Gal and lil man, well he is a Mississippi State Bullie. BUT with a team from so close to the house, and our teams not even comin close to winning anything worth bragging about, we chose to root for the Tigers.  My husband and brother (whom is staying with us) on the other hand are (grrrrrrrrr) Kansas fans.  They are born and raised Kansas boys. Needless to say it was an interesting evening here in my house. The guys went to bed at the half, mainly because they have to be up at 430 am, but secondly because they were "so confident" that those doo-doo birds were gonna win. I on the other hand chose to stay up and watch it through. I just knew that the Tigers were gonna take it all!!!! I paced the floor tonight worse than I ever did for a Gator football game!!Lord knows I NEVER SIT during a Gator football game! Just so lil man and I could have the braggin rights!! Now I sit here and say WTF???? Why the hades did Memphis lose this game?? The free throws in my opnion, is what did them in. CDR, what up bro?? Did you have too many gummie bears to eat this mornin too?? Was the team "over-confident"? Knowing that a National Championship win would be a postitive for a city in the midst of at least a years worth of black-eyes. Did they think that since they took out UCLA so handly,  a team that in the past has been so dominate in championship play against the Tigers, that the what is that bird team again,?would be a easy over? No, I don't think Memphis ever thought Kansas would be easy. They knew it was going to be a close game. BUT What happened to the free throws?? OMG!! You gotta be kiddin right?! Memphis at the free throw line reminded me of 'dem Gator boys football team a few years back that couldn't "buy" an extra point or field goal. Were they maybe a lil over confident coming into tonights game?? Maybe...BUT I think there was one call that killed the Tigers.............The review of the review...........a shot that was initally a 3, a potential game winner..It was reviewed, and upheld as a 3, than REVIEWED AGAIN. HUGH????? DO WHAAA????? Review of a review??????? Now, I am not the biggest of NCAABB followers, football yes, b-ball not as much. I cannot remember off the top of my head in college football, at any time during a championship game that a review of the review was done and the inital TWO calls were overturned..If there has been please let me know....In my opinion the shot was taken off the right foot with the left in the air, right foot being dominate, therefore a 3 not a 2. Pretty much a game winning/losing call. Memphis lost this game on more levels than just this one call, yes, but the momentium, in my opinion, the "breath" being taken out of the Tiger team, lay on that one call. Allen, stay off the dope, maybe next year you can help your team bring home that trophy, the NIT trophy that is cause this gal is lookin at 'dem Gator boys to FINALLY start gellin and put the CHOMPionship fear back into the NCAA...Memphis, CONGRATS on making it to the championship game!! Congrats to the doo-doo birds on their win!!!! ;)

Tonights game was actually the worse case scenario for me.  Not only did it officially end my NCAA bracket, which was quite possibly the worse I've ever had since I starting filling them out, but I'm not much of a fan of either program and I had no vested interest in whomever won.  I went for Memphis only because I have some pent up left over hatred for Bill Self leaving Illinois a few years back.  He's a great recruiter, but a terrible x's and o's coach IMO.  Memphis gave the game away late with bad decisions, Dorsey fouling out in regulation on a dumb foul and there free throw shooting, which everyone thought would be the death of them sooner rather then later in the NCAA tournament.  I think the ref's made the right call in reversing the 3
