Nets host struggling Clippers |
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers conclude a three-game road swing Saturday when they arrive in New Jersey to face the Nets at the Izod Center.
A short-handed Los Angeles club lost a heartbreaker in Philadelphia Friday when former Clipper Elton Brand scored 17 points, and made the go-ahead jumper with 57.9 seconds left, to propel the 76ers to an 89-88 win.
Al Thornton finished with 22 points and nine rebounds for the Clippers, who were without the services of Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas. The duo was part of a trade Friday with the New York Knicks, in which Los Angeles got Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins.
Baron Davis added 18 points, while Chris Kaman had 17 points and nine boards for the Clippers, who have lost four of five and are just 2-10 this season.
Randolph, who was leading the Knicks with 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, and Collins may make their debuts for the Clippers tonight.
Meanwhile, the Nets will attempt to win their second game in as many nights and reach the .500 mark on the season.
Vince Carter poured in a season-high 39 points Friday, including the desperation three-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime and the game-winning alley-oop dunk as time expired in the extra frame against his former team, to lead the Nets in a wild 129-127 win over the Raptors.
Devin Harris scored 30 points and had five helpers for the Nets, who have won three of four.
Jarvis Hayes and Brook Lopez totaled 14 points apiece in the win.
On the injury front for New Jersey, center Josh Boone (ankle) is doubtful for the game.
The Clippers swept the home-and-home series between the two clubs last season and have won four of five overall versus the Nets.
