Report: Celtics to exercise option on Rondo

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics reportedly plan to exercise their option for the 2009-2010 season on point guard Rajon Rondo, an integral member of the club's championship run last season.

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge told the Boston Globe on Wednesday that the club will exercise its $2.09 million option on the young point guard prior to the start of the season. Rondo and his agent told the Globe that they are happy about the decision, and hope to sign a long-term deal with the Celtics during the summer of 2009.

Rondo averaged 10.6 points, 5.1 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 29.9 minutes per game for the Celtics last season, his second in the league. The 22-year-old point guard averaged 10.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game in the playoffs as the Celtics won their first NBA title since 1986.
